“…on either side were the hulks of great machines—broken and corroded relics from a forgotten, intellectual age.”
This picture shows another impression of the vast, austere and gloomy interior of the Palace of Green Porcelain where Weena is playing hopscotch between the shadows. Creating artwork like this is light relief from lyric writing, which I honestly find to be hard work. There are only four songs with lyrics in ‘The Time Machine’ musical and it’s essential to maximise their impact, allowing no room for ‘fluff’. This, plus the fact that the musical is a ‘one-time-only’—I won’t be walking this avenue again—all adds to that sense there is great responsibility to get it right. I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised at how well this picture has turned out though.
